My name is Justine Bray Broyles and I am researching my father's side of my family. I have hit a brick wall with my 2nd great grandfather Milton Bray. He and his brother Clinton are the only relatives he for sure remembered. He was born in Grainger County, Tennessee. Sometime between 1848-1851. On his death certificate his father's name was listed as Johnathan. He lived with the families Sam Riffey and Preston and Rutha Holt. Clinton married a Holt.

Hi All

Im on the hunt for my ancestors parents to continue building this line of the tree. Ive hit a solid block with one John Lovelace Augustin Bray (1829-1872).

Locations for this line of the Bray name would include St Giles in the Fields, St Martin in the fields, Middlesex, London.

Information currently at hand shows him living in London, Married in 1849 to Rosa Jemima Martin and having several children (John Charles, Rosa Kate, Charles Lovelace, Florence Lizzie, Frederick Augustus, Ernest Walter, Laura Helena, Eveline Emma and Alfred Herbert before passing away in 1872 - while living at 32 Stepney Green, St Clement Danes, Middlesex.

His marriage certificate to Rosa Jemima shows his fathers name as John, a grocer.

If anyone happens to have some corresponding information, I would be most grateful!

My family is descended from Bray and they lived in Cornwall. I have also got Cornish-Breton links.

The Brays were in my mother's lineage. I would love to hear from others researching this part of my family tree. I visited Cornwall many times as a child but was unaware of my connection. I live on the outskirts of Manchester in the UK. Many of my ancestors were miners and quarrymen

Hi, I have an old photo labeled "John Bray" that is in my ggg grandmother's photo album: Rhoda (Holt) Maupin's Photo Album

This was in Missouri and she apparently started it in 1876. So, he could have been born in the range 1850-1870

John Bray

Does he look familiar to anyone? I would love to know who this is. I have no idea what her connection to him was.

I'm fairly sure I've found him: John Bray. His family knew Rhoda (Holt) Maupin's family in Franklin County, Missouri. More details are on the profile. He is a grandson of William Eckley Bray Sr.

Mr McRorie, I find this photo seems to look like my Bray relatives. My 2nd great grandfather Milton

born 1848-1851 was orphaned at a young age and went to live with uncle and aunt Preston Holt and Rutha Holt. He sqid he thought his father's name was John. Could there be a connection? Would like to learn more!!!!

Hi Michael - I've added three Bray ancestors by way of stickering their bios. Please let me know if it would be OK for me to add some things to this ONS. For example: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Baty_Name_Study

Nothing sudden but I'd like to add a bit here and there.

thanks!

Hello. I am very interested in joining the "Bray Project" and helping those in the Project. My Bray Ancestors were born/lived/died in England (Bedfordshire, Cornwall, Yorkshire, Devonshire, Surrey). "Eaten Bray" is one my Ancestors residences. My 7th Great Grandfather (Thomas Bray II, 29 Jan 1615-30 Nov 1691) arrived in Massachusetts, mid 1600's. The Family lived in Massachusetts, Maine (State border changes), Nebraska, and Oregon. Some of the Family migrated, West, from Massachusetts and Maine, to Nebraska (Great Grandfather Jacob Wellcome Bray, 4 Nov 1849 (Maine)-2 Apr 1912 (Oregon) and on to Oregon. There are my Bray Branch Ancestors who stopped and lived in States along the way. Thank you for consideration.

Hi Gene,

My family also originated from Cornwall and many moved to Yorkshire. Mining and working in quarries was a feature of my family tree

Hi Michael, my Bray family come from Cornwall, mainly around Gwennap. I'd love to be part of your name study. Thanks for getting it going! I'd be happy to work with you to start creating a few Bray Name Study categories.
posted by Gillian Thomas
Hi! I created the companion category for your name study (Category:Bray Name Study). Feel free to edit it. The default for the template is to add the main category, but you can add a line to have a different category. See the ONS template page for details. Give me a holler if you have any questions about categorization.

I also created a redirect, so Project:Bray (the link for the button from the Bray surname page) brings you to this page.

Cheers, Liz
